Play Kitchens and Little Boys
There is no doubt that our society can be hypocritical. While in most cases it is perfectly acceptable to have a “Tom Boy” as a daughter it doesn’t translate the other way around. While playing with Barbies may be too much for a boy parents to handle, play kitchens shouldn’t be lumped into that category and here’s why.
Kids love to emulate their parents. In today’s households more and more fathers are taking on a more domestic role. Typically both parents work these days and much of the cooking duties are shared. This is a task that all people need to know how to do no matter who you are and kids recognize this.
Playing with a toy kitchen allows kids to create and engage in imaginative behavior. This is always good for the child. Also, we mustn’t forget all of the wonderful chefs today who are men such as Emeril, Bobby Flay and of course my favorite Chef Gordon Ramsey.
Manufactures recognize that play kitchens aren’t just for little girls any more and have created some great gender friendly kitchens. You can find several that are donned in bold primary colors without any frilly accessories making it a great adjunct to any little boys toy arsenal.
