When I whip out my camera to take pictures, I feel slightly embarassed and awkward?

I love taking pictures of my dogs, I mostly do it in my backyard which of course most of the pictures are looking the same and are getting dull, rarley I will actually go down to the nearby park hoping nobody is round so I can take my pictures.
I just feel stupid in a way when other people are around when I take out my camera and start taking pictures of my dogs.
How would I overcome this?
I take pretty sweet pictures also so it’s kind of a waste.

Asians have no problem with whipping out their cameras at the most awkward times and places, so I don’t think you should care. Just do your thing, if you like doing it, keep doing it. Our purpose in life is not to impress other people and live up to their standards.

Haha, so do I. Some people just don’t enjoy taking pictures like I do! I always want to take a picture of my dog playing with other dogs and I ask the other owner and it’s so awkward! Haha. Don’t worry about it. People will just notice how much you love your dogs!

It is ok to take pictures of your dog but you sound obsessed with it. When you get the urge to take a picture….do something else. You may want to see a therapist about this

Im assuming you would like to be a photographer. Well, its kind of like me and my singing. I love to sing, but get embarrassed when anyone is around. It is a form o stage fright to me. But people take that differently. If you love it don’t worry about what others think. Yes, it may take a long time for you to overcome it, but I am working at it too and i am more comfortable now than 2 years ago. You could start out by taking pictures of your family or just when your family is around. take it slow that is the best way to do it. Good luck!

    That’s how I felt also.

I just tried to motivate myself by saying if you don’t take them then there won’t be any memories. You shouldn’t be embarrassed because maybe people will think "this guy may be a photographer", well um depending what kind of camera you have. Just go for it and you may even notice other people take pictures and you won’t feel awkward.
At least you feel good and who cares what others think.

Wubzzy, I had the same awkwardness too! Whenever I used to take my camera out in front of a stranger/s, I suddenly got conscious.

How did I overcome it? I started observing other people. I noticed that most people are awkward with their cameras. Maybe because they didnt want to be disturbed while taking pictures or because they weren’t exactly good with the camera.

I started asking passerbys to click pictures of me in the park or museum/zoo. This sort of instilled confidence in me(because their pictures weren’t that great ;) ). I thought to myself ‘hey I am not bad so what am i embarrassed about?’ and then i started to wield a camera confidently.

You will get over the awkawardness soon too!
