You should clean your earrings daily with betadine (not alcohol) or a special piercing solution. I find that salt water also helps, and if you're allergic to iodine, it's a good alternative. After awhile, the smell should go away, and you can start cleaning them a little less frequently. Even if you don't feel like removing the earrings, it's still a good idea to clean around them with betadine/whatever on a Q-tip. But after a week only take them out once and clean the ear (yes the white mucus is normal and it may even bleed but its ok) and put the earring back in. I dont really get that anymore... i have had my ears pirced for about 5 years now, so yea.
