I’m looking for gift ideas for my dad and was going to get him a Tagine and a Moroccan cookbook since he enjoys cooking so much but then I remembered that he’s said a few times that he doesn’t really like Indian food. So I’m wondering how similar they are as far as spices and such go.

They are not similar in taste at all. I am a big fan or Moroccan food, but I don’t really like Indian food. Moroccan cuisine does use spices, like Indian cuisine, but does not use curry. The spices are usually cumin, paprika, or dried ginger, but are used quite sparingly as opposed to Indian cuisine, which uses more spices in higher amounts. Have your father try out a simple tagine (my favorite is lamb or beef with green beans) or even a cous cous.

Oh, there is so much of finger-licking stuff!! If you want something easy, quick yet tasty go for Chicken Tikka, or Chicken/Beef seekh kabab. It is meat which is marinated with rich spices like turmeric, red chili,chaat masala etc and is then barbequed or grilled. You could do Dhokla as well it is pretty tasty and easy too. Im a Pakistani and our cuisine is almost the same, here we prefer reshmi kebab, reshmi boti, chicken cheese boti etc… If you want more of Yummy, Tasty Indian recipes, i have a website for you! There you go :-

Really Hope this helped. Make sure you try and explore the rich indian culture and its cuisines

I want to open an Indian Restaurant in Sweden, in smaller city. But I want to know more if there are really many people like Indian cuisine.

Do you like Indian food? Which one is your fave? Will you go to Indian restaurant once a week or once a month?

Do you think it is a good business?

Any comments will be greatly appreciated.

Why are you asking us?

Our response will not reflect the location you’re looking at. It sounds like you’re actually in the small town in Sweden and you need to research your potential clientele.

Good business calls for planning, a business plan and finances/budget.

What’s the location like?
Is the place on a major street or a less traveled side street?
How do you plan to attract customers – advertising, word of mouth, open and hope people show?

Asking us this question is irrelevant to your situation since we will not be able to go to your restaurant.

I’m trying to plan a dinner party with Indian cuisine but I’m not sure what kinds of dishes would make for a good combination.

Tandoori Chicken- easy & tasty!!

INGREDIENTS

    * 2 pounds chicken, cut into pieces
* 1 teaspoon salt
* 1 lemon, juiced
* 1 1/4 cups plain yogurt
* 1/2 onion, finely chopped
* 1 clove garlic, minced
* 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger root
* 2 teaspoons garam masala
* 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
* 1 teaspoon yellow food coloring
* 1 teaspoon red food coloring
* 2 teaspoons finely chopped cilantro
* 1 lemon, cut into wedges

   1. Remove skin from chicken pieces, and cut slits into them lengthwise. Place in a shallow dish. sprinkle both sides of chicken with salt and lemon juice. Set aside 20 minutes.
2. In a medium bowl, combine yogurt, onion, garlic, ginger, garam masala, and cayenne pepper. Mix until smooth. Stir in yellow and red food coloring. Spread yogurt mixture over chicken. Cover, and refrigerate for 6 to 24 hours (the longer the better).
3. Preheat an outdoor grill for medium high heat, and lightly oil grate.
4. Cook chicken on grill until no longer pink and juices run clear. Garnish with cilantro and lemon wedges.

    *
Garam masala may be purchased in Indian markets and in the gourmet section of some supermarkets. If Garam masala is not available, use 1 teaspoon ground cumin, and 1teaspoon ground coriander.
*
This dish can also be baked in a hot oven (450 degrees F) for 25 to 30 minutes (or until done). But the grill tastes better!!

It is also good with light cocktail or something like Pinot- or even iced tea (homemade herbal iced tea is a staple in my home!)

This is a hard one to decide!!! Thanks for all the answers, I must put it to a vote..

You’ve gotta check out these pages – they are brilliant descriptions and should answer all the questions about Indian food you haven’t even thought of yet. I totally agree with their descriptions and I spent quite a bit of time in India and I cook Indian at home regularly (no – not from a jar either!).

Make sure you read ‘em both!

Indian food is very tasty, spicy, and healthy. Alot of the spices, and herbs used in Indian cooking and most of the cooking in that region, such as Pakistani, Thai, Indonesian, almost all Middle Eastern Foods have healing properties. In addition to, the desserts are so sweet and different than what we are used to in the US. I married a Pakistani man 24 years ago, and my pallet has been introduced to sooo many great tasting dishes. We eat Pakistani or Indian food about 70% of the time. Typical American food really becomes bland once you get a taste of spice.

There are any number of restaurants in Houston that server authentic Indian cuisine, it probably is one of the best US cities for Indian cuisine. There is a lot to choose from is there anything in particular that you are looking for within Indian cuisine?

If you want good south indian vegetarian food Balaji Bhavan and Madras Pavilion (the one in Houston proper) are good choices. For a pretty good diverse Indian menu Bombay garden is a good choice. If you want Indian food with a British bent London Sizzler is pretty good and has good ambience. If you are familiar with the subject you will know that the British are among the most loyal connoisseurs of Indian food apart from Indians themselves and you find a lot of hybrid Indian cuisine that comes from U.K. Another one that I like a lot is Indian Wok though it may be a bit of a hike depending on where you are coming from. But it is generally worth the trip – it is Indian Chinese food (if you are familiar with the genre) and I think the quality of food and their buffet are awesome. I also really like Udipi Bhavan in Sugarland for south indian veg food. You may be aware that Sugarland hosts a huge Indian community.

There are many other good ones, this is just a sampling.

You can find the location of any of these places in google or superpages.com, I am too lazy to dig them up at the moment. If you find it difficult to locate any of them add a note and I will dig it up for you.
