What amount of gratuity should you give to caterers?
Tipping Caterers can be a real mystery. The best thing to do is to talk to the caterer in advance. Most caterers have a service charge that is included in the bill and is distributed to the cooks, driver and wait staff. If there is no service charge or it is not for the people doing the work, then tipping 15% of the entire bill is appropriate. This amount should be divided among the servers by the on-site manager. If it is included, you don’t need to tip any more. Of course, if someone really goes out of his way for you, then feel free to tip that individual extra, remembering that it will be extra.

When ordering linens from caterers for the table tops?
We are having a wedding. We want to order ivory linens for the table tops. Does it usually cost extra to have them touch the floor? I’m afraid the caterers are trying to nickel and dime us.
Hi,.
I rent a lot of linens for a big wedding caterer.
Does it usually cost extra to have floor-length linens? Depends on the level of catering.
For higher-end full-service caterers (say 55.00 and up per person), a floor-length linen is the starting point…and you can upgrade from there to textured "specialty" linens or sheer overlays.
For more economical caterers, it’s common to use shorter linens to control costs.
It absolutely costs us more to rent longer linens, so it’s fair that they are charging more for a floor-length linen than a shorter linen. Also, it definitely sounds like your caterer is RENTING the linens, which is very good news. Caterers that use their own linens can be trouble. Almost no caterer will invest the big bucks it takes to properly launder and press linens. So, rented linens are what you want. So this is good news for you!
With my rental company, a floor-length linen for a 60" round guest table is 11.50 each PLUS a 85.00 "anytime" delivery fee, my cost, which we mark up (of course). A shorter linen is 8.50 or 10.50 or so…depending on the size. If you’re able to pay the extra 1.00 or 2.00 per linen, definitely do it…the room will look MUCH better. I’m super budget-conscious, but you’ve got to hide table legs. It’s important for a nice, clean look. =)
Good luck!

what caterers would be suitable for a special school in london, desperate for nutrition?
we are currently suffering with scolarist, with soggy overcooked veg, procesed chicken and generally poor quality, bad tasting food – with little regard for the cultural make up of our diverse students. As all of our students are physically disabled and are often in and out of hospital thus their diet is even more important. The deserts are all fat and suger and have little or no nutritional value, food dye is common place with pizzas staining plates and very sorry sausages. our contract with the burger king company is up shortly and i would desperatley like an alternative. Cost is an issue with money having to come from somewhere, but the present situation has shown many broken promises and declining standards. i would like any suggestions, we have an onsite kitchin and about 90 children with varius needs, the staff would also eat if the food was good adding another 30-60 covers per day.
are their specialist caterers? are our numbers sufficient?
could we go inhouse? is there hope?
Due to Jamie Oliver’s School Dinners TV series, Scolarest is supposedly changing. You might want to check the rival company, Harrison catering but the chances are that its pretty much the same. The only hope is that all the exposure will cause changes. See if you can talk to *Initial Catering. If they can’t help you, they may be able to give you a recommendation.
If you decide to go inhouse, this article may help you:

If you have connections with one of the hospitals that your children frequent, possibly they could give you some advice.
What it all comes down to is money. You might have to do fundraisers to be able to make up the costs, or independently find suppliers different than what your caterer uses.
Atlanta area caterers with a liquor license?
Looking for a great caterer that can do outside (not at their own venue) catering. I would prefer feedback from someone who has either 1) used them for their own event or 2) eaten their food at an event they were invited to.
